Bagnall 0-6-0ST Number 6
This loco was the mainstay of steam traction on the Caledonian Railway from the late 80s until 1998, but sadly in recent years changing circumstances mean the owner is rarely seen at the railway. Recent rumours indicate the engine may be up for sale.
She was new in 1944 to the Donington Central Ordnance Depot, but on 15th November of that year was transferred to West Hallam Command Ordnance Supply depot. A further move came in May 1946 to the Ministry of Fuel and Power at West Hallam Opencast mine in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Here she received the number 75161.
Around 1961 she was moved to Backworth loco shed (National Coal Board) Northumberland, as "number 6". She moved to nearby Ashington in October 1964 but returned to Backworth in January 1965. She was noted as out of use in this location by February 1976, and was sold to the current owner for preservation in May 1977. An initial move to the Bowes Railway took place, with a final move to Brechin in August 1979.
