419 heads back to the 'Caley'

"Caley Tank" no. 419, seen here at Birkhill on the Bo'ness and Kinneil Railway
This historic engine (above), Caledonian Railway No. 419, is heading back to the Brechin branch after an absence of 50 years. 419 and its sisters were the staple motive power for the Brechin branch line's passenger trains until the line closed to passengers on August 4th 1952. To commemerate that sad day, the present-day Caledonian Railway has arranged to hire locomotive 419 from its owners, the Scottish Railway Preservation Society. The will operate weekends in July and August, including the actual anniversary weekend of August 3rd & 4th when a major gala is taking place at Brechin station. This will include a fifty years on-to-the-minute re-run of the last train.
Owners of vintage vehicles are invited to display their machines during the event - either email Simon Hickman or phone Mrs Ena Wilkie on 01561 377760.
