Inspection Saloon no. DB999502 was built
by BR at Wolverton in1959, to LMS designs. It is from Diagram number
2046, and Lot number 3093. Preserved by the Brechin Railway Preservation
Society in 1982, it was the main passenger coach for many years,
as until our Light Railway Order was obtained the only services that
could be run were half-mile shuttles, using the saloon. On the opening
of the branch fully in 1992 it was used in the train set until relegated
to 'spare coach'. While a superb vehicle, the extremes of Scottish
weather and lack of undercover facilities mean the railway feels it
could be better looked after elsewhere.
The photograph above with the 'Austerity' shows 999502
in 1995, and since then the side shown has received a protective coat of
unlined maroon. The other photo (see previous screen) shows the saloon in BR blue and grey
prior to restoration in the early '80s. Prospective purchasers would be
welcome to keep the vehicle on the railway provided they maintained it! |
