27/05/2004 A beautiful day at Brechin today, where 2084 was hauling a couple of wagons as part of her running-in turns.

25/05/2004 Peckett 2084 is in steam all this week, running in following axlebox attention. Mike Thompson are Graeme Fullerton are seen doing what they love best...cleaning!

Later on the Peckett is seen (right) on a running-in turn near the Sandpit.

18/05/2004 Peckett 2084 (left) is back in steam as can be seen in the picture, left, by Graeme Muir.

At Bridge of Dun, the diesel group are making rapid progress with the completion of Nairn Goods Shed, or "Bridge of Dun MPD" as it is referred to on their website! 10 tons of sand has been levelled as a base for a new concrete floor, the concrete for which is scheduled to be poured on Saturday.

Elsewhere, the railway is preparing for the running season with the weedkiller train out and about over the weekend, and spot-sleepering in progress at Kincraig. The Carriage boys have undercoated BFK "Gladys" and have been carrying on with the overhaul of long-term restoration project, Mark 1 TSO #4864.

The operating season kicks off a week on Saturday with the first murder mystery evening of 2004 - still plenty of seats left too, so contact Simon if you fancy a night out with a difference!

11/05/2004 Some of our less glamourous wagons have been receiving a lick of paint this week in order to smarten up the appearance of certain areas. The 'high' (below left) is finished in matt grey and the 'mermaid' (middle) is currently in primer. Meanwhile station cat Sulzer (right) is taking a break from helping with the filing in the company office.

05/05/2004 By all accounts the diesel gala was very successful. Your webmaster was a.w.o.l. (are these two events related?) but a quick trawl of the Internet brought up a few sites with the weekend's pictures:

Booking clerk Graeme Muir's site (Fotopic)
v
isitor Derek Hoskins' site (Fotopic)
visitor Nick Rossa's site. (Regular site)
...and visitor Martin Tattam's site (Fotopic)

Prior to the gala company Chairman Andrew Webster was caught today in an unlikely pose, operating 25083's fuel racks. Click here for the evidence!

Grampian TV (very pleased with last week's filming) sent us the picture on the right of extras at bridge of Dun, and Steve Pegg and I on the engine.

28/04/2004 Grampian Television were at the railway yesterday filming evening steam train shots for a forthcoming documentary about the fall of the Tay Bridge in 1879. They bagged some spectacular footage of Barclay 0-6-0T "Harlaxton" (suitably bulled-up and painted as an 1879 loco!) coming through the 1 in 70 cutting at Magdalene Chapel on main valve in darkess! Click here for a link to the news item in today's Aberdeen Press and Journal.

Local freelance photographer Ian Paterson kindly sent us a couple of pictures of the filming work: Click on either of the photos above for their larger images, and click here to see Ian's website.

23/04/2004 We were delighted to receive a wonderful print of Perth (click for image) from a Perthshire lady in memory of her late husband.

One of the planet 4wDM shunters left the railway this morning. Graeme Fullerton has dug out a picture of it in the railway's early years.

19/04/2004 A red letter day for the diesel group on Saturday, with the start-up of class 25 number 25083 for the first time since 1984. Blair Winton writes (on the CRDG website)

"This weekend, the 25's engine was started, since withdrawn because of a generator flashover on 9th July 1984. Over the last two weeks various engine repairs have been done to allow the loco to be 'fired up', the last, a sheared oil feed pipe in the cylinder head was drilled out and repaired just minutes before the attempt. None of the auxiliaries, minus the triple pump, have yet been tested but it is hoped that they will all be operational without too much hassle."

Ross McGregor was on hand to take this photo (left)

13/04/2004 (Left) George Moir and the work parties from Noranside Prison have been busy today working at the foot crossings on the line just beyond Brechin station. Thanks to a grant from the Shell Better Britain Campaign, we have been able to erect gates, new fences, cattle grids and warning signs. The cast iron signs in the picture were actually one of the last items to be cast in Forfar foundry before it closed over twenty years ago, but we have only just got round to putting them up!

Far left: Nairn Goods shed is already starting to look like it has been at Bridge of Dun for years. Here a type 2 is glimpsed in platform 1 - on a semi-fast to Glasgow? Another goods shed pic is here.

Further updates to the stocklist today - diesel locos all now linked to a picture.
