21/07/2003:
With two Thomas weekends over, the railway is getting back to normal. We are
very pleased to report an estimated 6000 passengers were carried over the four
days, with plenty of happy faces! One of the highlights of the weekends were the
'races' out of Bridge of Dun between Bulgy the bus and Thomas. Bulgy's owner Jim
Crichton took the following photos:

Above (left) the view from the
bus as Thomas makes a storming departure from Dun, and (right) steams into the
distance!

Above (left) Bulgy might have
lost the race, but he still made it to Montrose High Street years before Thomas
will be able to!
(right) Bulgy sits in Bridge of Dun's bus turning circle awaiting Thomas'
arrival and the chance of another race!

08/07/2003 Left: A picture taken last Friday which demonstrates very well what has been achieved in the last few years. Of special note is the landscaped island platform recently completed by the Princes Trust. However, also to be seen are the smart carriages and new picket fences. The canopy on platform 1 was restored three years ago with a grant from the Angus Environmental Trust, and the tracks in platform 2 (on which the class 26 stands) was relaid last winter. The building on the centre platform was once a £200 Portacabin but now forms a smart ticket office, shop and toilets. Future plans include laying more sidings to allow the scrap stock in platform 1A (far right) to be moved to a less prominent position. |
23/06/2003: Thomas the tank engine brought us our most successful weekend ever, just passed. Estimates suggest an unprecedented 3,200 passengers were carried over the two days! A very many thanks to all the hard working volunteers - too numerous to mention - who helped out, and will also be helping this weekend for the final Day out with Thomas 2003.
Here are a few photos of the weekend from the camera of Dave Lawson:

01/07/2003:
With Thomas the Tank's impending arrival we have been busy getting the
stations into shape for the hundreds of visitors we expect to receive this
weekend. Bridge of Dun in particular is a revelation following work by the
Princes Trust and Jim Wilkie's fencing skills. Tarmacing work should be
complete by today. |
