Sailing conditions are ideal for beginners in Keyhaven River, as Hurst Spit provides shelter from the waves and the wind. The lagoon on the landward side of Hurst Castle is an ideal location to beach a dinghy and make a picnic stop. More experienced sailors will find the harbours of Lymington and Yarmouth within easy reach.

With the right tides, a variety of creeks and bays on both Hampshire and IoW shores of the Solent can be attained, for example Pylewell, Newtown Creek and the Beaulieu river.

As well as these harbours and Newtown Creek, cruiser sailors can daysail further afield in the Central and Eastern Solent, or they canpass through the narrows into Christchurch Bay and head for Christchurch or Poole harbours.

The IoW shore and the Needles provide one of the most splendid backdrops of any sailing venue on the South Coast.
