The Club
has a full Summer sailing programme each year, with something during the
week most weeks and also at weekends for the Racing, Cruising or
Pottering sailor. The
full sailing programme is shown on its own page (Click on the link
to go straight there). The
Weekend racing programme is run using Portsmouth Yardstick handicaps, so
any dinghy can take part. The racing is open to all members, adults and
juniors, but the courses are set to suit the ability of the youngest and
/ or least able competitors, specifically to encourage participation by
Junior Members. Click here to Click here to see Sailing Instructions for Saturday Racing See the Latest 2011 Saturday Racing Results The
annual Newtown Pursuit race traditionally tests the skills of Dinghy and
Yacht skippers alike, when they all compete together for the Weatherhead
Trophy. The
Club’s Annual Regatta provides a range of events for dinghies, whilst
the Family Sailing Weekends are aimed, as might be expected,
particularly at whole family participation Keeping the Clubhouse spick and span The Committee takes great pride in the upkeep of the Club premises, and most of the work is managed and carried out on a voluntary basis. The annual 'start of season' working party is responsible for the upkeep of the clubhouse and maintaining the grounds. Social events A number of open-air barbeques are held throughout the year as part of several weekend events, and more formal dinners are traditionally held to launch and close the sailing season. Winter lectures are run to maintain contact between members out of the sailing season, and the New Year's Day gathering is becoming a popular way to start the year. Coffee mornings Club coffee mornings are held at the Clubhouse every Tuesday morning, winter and summer, at 10:30. This informal gathering is an excellent opportunity to meet other members and arrange impromptu sailing events and crews for dinghies and cruisers. See the separate page for details of the Dinghy Pottering programme (click the underlined text to go straight there). |
